PERSONALITY TYPES. Human beings regardless of culture, age, background, etc. seem to have four basic personality types or temperaments. As far back as 400 BC Hippocrates observed and tries to classify these four personality types. He used body fluids to describe four personality types. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

Choleric – the active type (D) Sanguine – the lively type (I) PERSONALITY TYPES. Choleric – the active type (D) Sanguine – the lively type (I) Phlegmatic – the slow type (S) Melancholy – the dark type (C) Sages & Scribes Consultants.

PERSONALITY TYPES. No one person is only one of these types; Researches indicate that: No one person is only one of these types; Each person is a combination of these four basic temperaments; Majority of people have two personality temperaments that are predominant while the two others are less predominant. PERSONALITY CHARACTERISTICS THE ‘D’ TYPE. The ‘D’ type personality is motivated by challenges. They have a strong need to be in charge. They also have a high need to be in control of the situation wherever they find themselves. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

POSITIVE CHARACTER TENDENCIES. THE ‘D’ TYPE. They are usually dominant and have a strong personality. Their focus is often to get things done hence, they are often practical. They are problem solvers and decision makers. They love challenges and are pragmatic and persistent to see a task completed. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

POTENTIAL CHARACTER WEAKNESS. THE ‘D’ TYPE. They can be very dogmatic and deficient. They can be very demanding and insensitive to the needs of others. They can be persistent, inflexible, and impatient. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

POTENTIAL CHARACTER WEAKNESS. THE ‘D’ TYPE. They can be overconfident, overlooking risks and throwing caution to the wind. Under pressure, they can be overbearing and dictatorial. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

PERSONALITY CHARACTERISTICS. THE ‘I’ TYPE. The ‘I’ type personality is motivated by a need for recognition. They have a high need for acknowledgement, approval by others. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

POSITIVE CHARACTER TENDENCIES. THE ‘I’ TYPE. They are inspirational people who can naturally influence others. They tend to be optimistic. They are verbally articulate, persuasive, outgoing and friendly. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

POSITIVE CHARACTER TENDENCIES. THE ‘I’ TYPE. They are compassionate, warm and generally liked by all. Their people – oriented personality means that they usually know many people. They are good and effective networkers. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

POTENTIAL CHARACTER WEAKNESS. THE ‘I’ TYPE. While the ‘I’ type personality is influential, they can also be easily influenced. This can lead to inconsistency in character. They can be impulsive and lack follow through. When under pressure, they have the tendency to use superior verbal ability to strike out and attack. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

POTENTIAL CHARACTER WEAKNESS. THE ‘I’ TYPE. Their sound verbal ability can lead them to talk too much. They can be verbally manipulative. Being generally optimistic can lead them to misjudge their capability and thus over commit themselves. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

PERSONALITY CHARACTERISTICS. THE ‘S’ TYPE. The ‘S’ personality type is motivated by close inter-personal relationships. They usually have the need to be supportive and appreciative of others. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

POSITIVE CHARACTER TENDENCIES. THE ‘S’ TYPE. The ‘S’ personality type has a tendency to be supportive, loyal and agreeable to people without even trying. They are reliable, stable, steady, and usually liked by everyone for their amiable character. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

POSITIVE CHARACTER TENDENCIES. THE ‘S’ TYPE. They like being with people, but like to choose who they are with as opposed to just being with a crowd. They are easy going and desire to maintain the status quo: they do not like changes. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

POTENTIAL CHARACTER WEAKNESSES. THE ‘S’ TYPE. In wanting to please everyone, they can be indecisive. They avoid conflict and can be overly tolerant. Under pressure, they have the tendency to just give up or give in. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

POTENTIAL CHARACTER WEAKNESSES. THE ‘S’ TYPE. Due to their agreeable nature, they can easily be taken advantage of. They also have a tendency to procrastinate and have difficulties meeting deadlines. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

PERSONALITY CHARACTERISTICS. THE ‘C’ TYPE. The ‘C’ type personality is motivated excellence. They have a high need to have the right answers. They also have the need for doing the right things and doing things right. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

POSITIVE CHARACTER TENDENCIES. THE ‘C’ TYPE. They are generally self-disciplined, orderly, thorough and very analytical. They are competent individuals who are cautious, calculating and precise. They often complain – looking for better ways of doing things. They are consistent and conscientious to see a project through. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

POTENTIAL CHARACTER WEAKNESS. THE ‘C’ TYPE. The ‘C’ personality type tends to be too cautious and rigid. Their attention to details could mean they lose sight of the big picture. They can be moody, pessimistic or even critical. They have a tendency to be unsociable, working on projects as opposed to being with people. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

POTENTIAL CHARACTER WEAKNESS. THE ‘C’ TYPE. Not wanting to make mistakes, they fail to take risks and opt to stay ‘safe’. When under pressure, they become even more introverted. They also have the potential to harbour ill-feelings for long periods. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

PERSONALITY TYPES. EXERCISE. So, what is your personality type? Are you a D,I,S or C personality type? Sages & Scribes Consultants.

DIFFERENT, YET VALUABLE. Everyone can be associated with these personality types. No one is totally D,I,S, or C. Everyone is a combination of these personality types. Each person is valuable and brings to every situation the potentials of their positive qualities. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

PRACTICAL STEPS IN UNDERSTANDING OTHERS – THE ‘D’ TYPE: Would benefit from slowing down and listening more Should focus more on the people component of any endeavour. Should be more open, warm and more willing to submit to the leadership of others Should learn to be supportive of others. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

PRACTICAL STEPS IN UNDERSTANDING OTHERS – THE ‘I’ TYPE: Would benefit from pausing and focusing on results. Should cultivate self-discipline, focus more on details, facts and be more realistic. Learn to control their emotions and rely less on their charisma to influence others. Be careful not to manipulative others with their superior verbal and persuasive skills. PRACTICAL STEPS IN UNDERSTANDING OTHERS – THE ‘S’ TYPE: Would benefit from taking initiatives and being more decisive. Learn to be more direct and less sensitive in dealing with others. Be more assertive when appropriate. Be open to change and not rigid at all cost as change can provide new opportunities. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

PRACTICAL STEPS IN UNDERSTANDING OTHERS – THE ‘C’ TYPE: Would be more effective if they develop peoples skills. Learn that sometimes decisions should be made on less tangible issues than just facts and figures. Learn to react more quickly and not get consumed by details and lose sight of the big picture. PRACTICAL STEPS IN UNDERSTANDING OTHERS – THE ‘C’ TYPE: See the need to meet deadlines. Make effort to develop relationships. Be more spontaneous and flexible. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

PERSONALITY TYPES & RELATIONAL NEEDS. When communicating with: D – Be direct and challenge them. I – Be positive and enthusiastic. S – Be patient and easy going. C – Be specific and thorough. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

PERSONALITY TYPES & RELATIONAL NEEDS. When convincing: D – Be result oriented; focus on the bottom – line. I – Be enthusiastic; focus on proven results in others. S – Be warm and friendly; take your time. C – Be methodical in what needs to be done and its importance. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

PERSONALITY TYPES & RELATIONAL NEEDS. When motivating: D – Let them take charge and determine how to do it. I – Allow them ample input and recognise their effort. S – Do things together and minimize conflict. C – Work closely together and give time to do right. Sages & Scribes Consultants.

PERSONALITY TYPES & RELATIONAL NEEDS. When in disagreement with: D – Do not be confrontational; offer various options for them to decide. I – Be patient. With time, their enthusiasm will wane.
