The Langford North Carolina Collection is one of the state’s major repositories dedicated to the study of North Carolina, its culture, and its people…

…but is the only one that emphasizes the eastern region of the state.

In 2000, The North Carolina Collection was re-named the Verona Joyner Langford North Carolina Collection in honor of Mrs. Langford, a major benefactor of ECU.

The NC Collection provides current and historical information about North Carolina in all subject areas, such as…  History  Genealogy  Demographics  Business  Science  Education  Law  and more…

In a variety of formats…  Books  Journal Articles  Maps  Vertical Files  Newspaper Clippings  Microforms  and online via the Web…

Visitors to the North Carolina Collection will find a reading room conducive to study.

The NC Microfilm Room provides access to historical census information, archived newspapers, and North Carolina government documents.

Rare Books and Broadsides A small collection of rare books and broadsides reflects the eastern region of the state, its agriculture, architecture, law, and local history.

The Snow L. and B.W.C. Roberts Collection An outstanding, non-circulating collection of novels and short stories set in North Carolina from the 1830’s to the present.

The North Carolina Periodicals Index is one of the jewels in our crown.

Since 1992, the NC Collection staff have indexed more than 40 periodicals published in North Carolina. Many are not indexed elsewhere.

The Index is searchable by keyword. Articles identified are available in the collection or through Interlibrary Services.

The North Carolina Collection is a principal contributor to the Eastern North Carolina Digital History Exhibits.

The rise of tobacco culture and related industry in the late 19 th and early 20th centuries is chronicled. The exhibit contains primary sources such as:  Letters  Photos  Business directories  Pay Records

A highlight of the Eastern NC Digital Tobacco History Exhibit is the searchable 1900 Census for Pitt County.
