Graphic Design Creating a Logo

Graphic Design Commercial artists create interesting designs, layouts, typography, and more! Graphic Design work includes: -book and magazine covers -CD covers -Clothing designs, graphics on tee-shirts -Posters and Billboards -Advertisements

Logo Design A Logo is a design that identifies a company or a brand. A good logo should –Be interesting to look at –Identify the logo owner –Be creative and memorable

Typography Typography is the art and technique of designing a set of letters. Each typeface, or font, has it’s own unique style. Designers chose different fonts to express different ideas.

Each Font Style has a unique look… Which one expresses YOU? Casual Handwritten Childlike and playful Elegant Feminine and Creative Pirate Script Old West Military Scary Movie Bold Cut Outs Blocky Modern Bold Blocky Cool Artsy Cool Caps

Your Assignment: Design a Logo using your initials Design Criteria: –Use your first and last initial –Design a style of lettering that represents your personality – Color and pattern should also represent you –Be Creative!!

Steps 1. Take a look at different font styles, or typography, and choose/create your own lettering style that expresses YOU.

2. Create a logo-style design using these letters, and create a design that helps express your idea.

3. Design a surface decoration that helps express your idea.

Consider the PATTERN and the COLOR scheme- what do you want to express? Choose a limited color palette- repeat the same three colors or use colors from one color family.

Trace your design onto cardboard 2 times, and cut out. This will form the front and back surfaces of your design. Cut out any additional elements that will pop out- these only need to be cut ONE time, because they will only pop out on the front.

Glue spacers between front and back to create a 3-D object. Add paper mache on open edges first, then all over using NEWSPAPER strips first, and then a single layer of SMALL paper towel pieces to create smooth, white surface.

When fully dry, we will paint using acrylics.

Completed Student Work
