The Seven Continents How they are different

Land and Water The Earth is mostly water ¾ of the Earth is covered in water The big bodies of water on Earth are called oceans The big pieces of land on Earth are called continents

Seven Continents North America South America Europe Asia Africa Australia Antarctica

North America This is the continent we live on The USA, Mexico, and Canada are the three biggest countries in North America North America is cold in the north and warm in the south Buffalo live in North America People in North America came here from many other continents Civilizations: Early Humans, Maya, Aztecs

South America The biggest country is Brazil, where people love to play soccer The Amazon rainforest is in South America South America is a warm continent People there speak mostly Spanish Civilizations: Inca

Europe There are 47 countries in Europe People in Europe speak over 50 languages! The weather in Europe is similar to North America – cold in the north and warm in the south Civilizations: Greece, Rome, Middle Ages

Asia Asia is the largest continent, and it has the most people – it is very crowded in some parts of Asia! China is one very big country in Asia Giant Pandas live in China and eat bamboo A cool place to visit in Asia is the Great Wall of China – it is the largest structure ever built by man Civilizations: Han, Zhou, Chang, etc

Africa Africa is a very hot continent because the equator runs through the middle of it Lions live in Africa Most people in Africa have dark skin and hair The Egyptian pyramids are in Africa Civilizations: Early Humans, Mesopotamia, Sumeria, Babylon, Egypt

Africa : The 2nd largest continent

Australia Australia is an island continent Native people in Australia are called Aborigines Other people in Australia are related to criminals sent from Europe long ago Kangaroos, koalas, and platypuses live in Australia The Great Barrier Reef is in Australia The weather in Australia is the opposite of our weather Civilizations: None 

Antarctica Antarctica is the coldest continent No people live in Antarctica, but some scientists visit to study the weather or animals there Many kinds of penguins live in Antarctica Civilizations: None

The Oceans The Atlantic The Pacific The Indian The Arctic The Southern

The Oceans Around 75% of the Earth’s surface is covered by oceans. Oceans are frequently used as a means of transport with various companies shipping their products across oceans from one port to another. The largest ocean on Earth is the Pacific Ocean, it covers around 30% of the Earth’s surface. The Pacific Ocean’s name has an original meaning of ‘peaceful sea’. The second largest ocean on Earth is the Atlantic Ocean, it covers over 21% of the Earth’s surface. For starters, did you know that 94 percent of life on Earth is aquatic? That makes us land-dwellers a very small minority. The deep sea is the largest museum on Earth: There are more artifacts and remnants of history in the ocean than in all of the world’s museums, combined. We have only explored less than 5 percent of the Earth’s oceans. In fact, we have better maps of Mars than we do of the ocean floor http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgmZYslTBLk
