LM2576/LM2576 HV Series SIMPLE SWITCHER 3A Step-Down Voltage Regulator

National Semiconductor 3.3V 5V 12V 15V and adjustable output versions Requires only four external components 52 kHz fixed frequency internal oscillator High efficiency Thermal shut down and current limit protection Uses readily available standard inductors

Applications Simple high-efficiency step-down (buck) regulator Efficient pre-regulator for linear regulators On-card Switching regulators Positive to negative converter (Buck-Boost)

Advantages are reduced the size of heat sink and most of the case no heat sink is required, simple to used. Disadvantages are noise, EMI. Other manufacturer Motorola, Bay linear.
