1891 – Basketball invented The History of Basketball It all started with two peach baskets affixed to a 10-foot-high railing and with a soccer ball in a YMCA in Massachusetts Iron hoops and a hammock-style basket were introduced in James Naismith The first ever college basketball game was played on January 18, 1896, when the University of Iowa invited student athletes from the new University of Chicago for an experimental game.
