Mercury Magnetic Twisters By Melody Muehlbauer And Karli Thuen

Issue of Planet Mercury The study of planet mercury is helping us understand the magnetic fields created by the sun, and it is helping us understand our planet and space more thoroughly. The magnetic fields created by Mercury were first found in the 1970's. Mercury is located nearest to the sun, and that is why it is most affected. Because of the sun, Mercury is severely affected by the suns radiation, causing the temperatures to soar at about 426 degrees Celsius during the day, and at night it drops to about -148 degrees Celsius. Mercury revealed magnetic tornadoes forming the magnetic field

Magnitude of the Story This is an international story. This could impact scientists that want to learn more about Mercury. This is an important part of science because people were thinking about living on Mercury.

Reliability of the Source The author of this article is Stephen Ornes. The source of this article include the European Space Agency, NASA. It does not appear that this article is biased because there isn’t any argument taken place.

Personal Reaction The reason why we chose this article because we were intrigued by the picture that was posted. We think this article was pretty interesting because Karli is personally fascinated with space. We would like to know how the sun makes Mercury create magnicity.

New Vocabulary  Bow shock- a supersonic shock made when solar winds meet with another force, such as Mercury's magnetic field. Magnetopause- The boundary between a planets magnetosphere and space
