OUR ENVIRONMENT Before we had Casper... Bombich tools (ccc, netrestore) Firewire HDD’s, cloning, etc.

COMPOSERIMAGING SUITE CASPER SUITE RECON SUITE Products FROM JAMF SOFTWARE

Client management toolbox for OS X -Natively designed for Macintosh Platform -Full integration with OS X client & server. Uses native tools to do some of its work. Agent-less, easy interface -Nothing to install. A small binary reports back to server. -Central management & central database — assign out functionality to certain people in your department. Developed by System Administrators -Developed out of deploying and managing by-hand. Remote and automated performance of IT tasks -Daily, monthly, nights & weekends. OVERVIEW

Imaging -New machine deployment, creating image, configure settings & printers Software Updates -From Apple and other vendors New software titles -You don’t have to wait for a school break to roll out new software Issue resolution -Quick maintenance; preventative maintenance of its work. CLIENT MANAGEMENT

Inventory -Licensing & compliance: software, hardware, fonts, plug-ins. -Dynamic inventory that is updated on a schedule of your choice. Image -Package building with Composer. Deploy with Casper Imaging. Update -OS Updates, Software updates, New software titles Maintain -Proactive support Policy-based tasks. CASPER SUITE LIFE CYCLE ON MACS

ARCHITECTURE MySQL & Tomcat -Heart of the whole suite. Runs on Mac OS X Server. JSS (JAMF Software Server) -Web interface is an entry point to a lot of the data and functionality of the suite. -Accessible from any machine with a web browser.

ARCHITECTURE Recon (uses secure SSH) Composer -Collects the inventory data and submits it back to the JSS. Allows the machine to be in a “managed” state. -Enables SSH, locks it down, makes it secure. Only cross-platform tool in suite. -pkg or dmg formats. -dmg will fill user templates

ARCHITECTURE Casper Admin (Modular approach to imaging) Casper (actual deployment tools) -after you’ve built all your packages, you use Casper Admin to organize your packages into configurations for imaging.
