AXIS 2460 System Overview  AXIS ETRAX 100LX  ARTPEC-1  4 MB FLASH  32 MB RAM  Up to 4 internal IDE hard disks  Linux 2.4

AXIS 2460 I/O  Power connector 115/230V 50-60Hz  RJ-45 for Ethernet 10/100  BNC (video in + loop through)  RS-232 (modem + external device control)  RS-485 (PTZ not supported in first rev.)  4 alarm inputs + 1 relay output control

Operating Options  All recording is done to AXIS 2460 internal hard disks  No connection to network or over modem is necessary for recording  Live view, playback, and administration via Web browser  Connection to Ethernet (network or directly with cross-over cable)  Connection via modem  Both Ethernet and modem connection

Installation Scenario – “Small” Store 2460 Cashier Parking lot Store Storeroom Office PC Modem Access from Remote location Network or direct Ethernet cable Serial cable to modem

Alarms for the “Small” Store 2460 Cashier Parking lot Store Storeroom Office PC Modem MD Push button

After Cabling  Basic set-up required after installation of cameras, cables, and alarm inputs, and the power is switched on for the first time  Minimum set-up to enable the video input ports

How to Get Around in the Product  1) Connect to PC/Web browser  Over Ethernet (network or directly with cross- over cable)  Over serial port (directly with null-modem cable supplied by Axis)  2) In the case of network connection, set the IP parameters and then continue with Web browser set-up  The first thing that will be seen in the Web browser is …

After Enabling the Cameras  The AXIS 2460 immediately starts to record from all enabled cameras at 1 frame per second  The “Continuous recording” event, a pre- defined event, which is enabled on all cameras by default  The event can be disabled or deleted  It is the events that determine what the AXIS 2460 will do!

Default View  Quad view  Always the same image size is displayed  For cameras set at high resolution (4CIF): Every second pixel horizontally and vertically is removed  For cameras set at normal resolution (CIF): Image shown in its’ true resolution  For cameras set at low resolution (QCIF): Every pixel horizontally and vertically is doubled  Viewing frame rate up to 7 (NTSC) / 6 (PAL) fps per camera with 4 synchronized cameras  Viewing frame rate up to 3.5 (NTSC) / 3 (PAL) fps per camera with 4 unsynchronized cameras  Viewing frame rate up to 30 (NTSC) / 25 (PAL) fps with 1 camera  Links to single camera view  Image shown in its’ true resolution  Links to Recordings and Administration

Does Everybody Have Access?  Yes, as long as the default password ‘pass’ remains unchanged  Three levels of users can be defined  Administrator  Operator  Viewer  All can be defined with or without dial- up access

User Levels  User Settings are found under Administration - System Options – Users  Administrator  Has access to everything  Operator  Has access to everything except System Option  Viewer  Has access to live viewing, playback, and manual start/stop recording (if such an event has been defined)

Setting Up Events  Event settings are found under Administration - Recording Options – Event Settings  Start with Alarm Settings if alarm inputs/output is going to be used  Can only be set up by Administrator or Operator  Up to 100 events can be defined at the same time  Up to 50 events can be active at the same time and trigger recordings  As long as a recording exists, which has been triggered by a certain event, the even will remain defined even if deleted from the Events List  Events can always be disabled

Events for the “Small” Store  Storeroom MD active  Record storeroom camera at max frame rate, recording duration 10 minutes, high priority recording  Always under normal conditions  Record store and cashier cameras at 1 fps, normal priority recording  Store MD active between 7 PM and 8 AM  Record store and cashier cameras at max frame rate, pre-buffer 5 minutes, top priority recording  Cashier push button active  Record store and cashier cameras at max frame rate, pre-buffer 30 minutes, recording duration 60 minutes, trigger alarm on output control, send an , top priority recording  Always  Record parking lot camera, 1 fps, low priority recording

Where are the Recordings?  All recordings are found under the Recordings link  Under Administration  Directly in the Live Quad View page  Directly in a single camera view page

Recordings  Allows you to search for recordings  By camera, event name, and time  Playback  Axis ActiveX component  Shows images in recorded resolution  Variable playback speed  Zoom in on time intervals  Create snapshots and AVI files  Lock recording (save “as is” on the hard disk until unlocked)  No limit on number of recordings  Expect slower Web interface with many (thousands of) recordings

Recording Options  Three Recording Modes available  The possible settings for the APViS algorithm  Normal – Long – Extended Long

APViS – Axis Patent Pending  An Axis invented algorithm to make room for new recordings on the hard disks by reducing the frame rate of the oldest and least important recordings  Eventually recordings are erased from the hard disks (unless locked)  Increases availability time of recordings compared to the standard FIFO algorithm  Age and priority of the event triggering a recording determine when frame rate reduction is done

Reduction is Done in Four Steps

The Recording Modes  Normal  Same as FIFO, i.e. oldest recording erased completely no matter what priority  Extended  Approximately doubles recording availability over Normal  Extended Long  Approximately five-doubles recording availability over Normal  Max Store Time  Regardless of recording mode, maximum store time of recordings can be specified per camera to enable compliance with local legislation

Availability / Time to First Reduction  Examples, approximate figures

Secure Storage  A method to reduce the impact of a hard disk crash or unexpected power failure  The AXIS 2460 writes images sequentially to all available disks  With for example 4 disks and in case of a disk crash, ¼ of the images of all recordings are lost, i.e. a 25 % decrease of frame rate is the only result and no complete recordings are lost  The AXIS 2460 uses a journaling file system (ext3fs)  After a power crash, the AXIS 2460 self-repairs and automatically resumes normal operation  The recordings database is continuously backed up to all available disks, but 1 minute of latest recordings may be lost

Camera Options  It’s all known from Axis Network Cameras and Video Servers

Camera and System Options  Two COM ports, modem goes on #2  No PTZ support  Three levels of users can be defined  Firewall built-in  Server and hard disk maintenance  Most of the other options are known from Axis Network Cameras and Video Servers

AXIS 2460 System Overview

It’s a Great Product!!
