Choosing A Camera There are several many hundreds thousands billions of camera models on the market to choose from

Choosing A Camera New models are always coming out No new major revisions anymore Just ask yourself the following questions…

Choosing A Camera How much am I willing to spend?

Choosing A Camera Do I want built-in or detachable lenses, and how much zoom do I want?

Choosing A Camera What will I mainly use a camera for? Yeah, I know! What kind of pictures? ?

Choosing A Camera What experience do I have as a photographer?

Choosing A Camera How large will my images need to be?

Choosing A Camera Do I want a camera that will fit in my pocket? Do I prefer a slightly larger camera?

Choosing A Camera What is “Best”… It’s a relative term. It means the balance of features that fit your needs at the right cost.

Choosing A Camera - Prices Canon EOS 1D Mark III$3,900 - $4,500 Nikon D300 (w/ 18mm-200mm lens)$2,250 - $2,700 Canon PowerShot S3 IS$249 - $450 Canon PowerShot SD750$163 - $275 Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80$ $239.99

Choosing A Camera - Prices Don’t forget accessories… Flash, lenses, tripod, strap, lens filters, batteries, carrying case, memory cards (just to name a few)

Things To Consider Resolution: A higher resolution doesn’t necessarily mean a better picture. ???

Things To Consider Image size is simply the dimensions of the image (in pixels) the camera will create. 14 MP = 4,500 x 3,185 3 MP = 2,048 x 1,536 XGA (3/4 MP) = 1,024 x 768 VGA (300 K) = 640 x 480

Things To Consider What do these images have in common? (Hint: it has nothing to do with the subject matter) (Another hint: What’s the shape of each picture?)

Things To Consider Manufacturers mask off a part of the image sensor 1.to conform to the proportion of the image you expect. 2.To store data about the picture (other than the pixel data)
