Our 2-Day Field trip to Springhill Mines, Joggins, Partridge Island, Wasson’s Bluff…

A good pit stop for any traveler to Nova Scotia!

The #2 seam – where the tragic “Bump” of 1958 occurred. We went down about 100 m – and the rest of the shaft area was flooded.

Matt gave a great talk and showed us around the museum.

But it stays on the beach! 

Earlier in the day we saw towering cumulus clouds developing, changing into the storm front that delivered cold rain, but thankfully it didn’t last long…

For fossils and anything else interesting on the beach!

There is a gypsum boat in the distance heading for Hantsport…

We’re only 6 minutes away from Cape Split by boat, and 3 hours by car! Bring back the Kipawo!

A must-see place to visit in Parrsboro!

(all you can see are his knees! )

(on the piece leaning against the ripple-marked rock)

“This dino is still warm!”

Gr. 12 Geology class of 2009 would like to thank:  Carol Corbett, Fundy Geological Museum – who escorted us everywhere, made sure we had enough to eat, built a great campfire, got us awake in enough time to avoid being trampled by the general public when the museum opened early morning, and generally made sure we had a great experience!  Ken Adams, who gave us an interesting tour of Wasson’s Bluff!  Matt Stimson, who made sure we saw everything at Joggins!  Staff of the Springhill mine  Staff of FGM in general  Dave MacFarlane and Jaret Dean – Chaperones/drivers “extraordinaire”, and along with Brenley Heaver, they are new honourary Class of Geology ‘09 members  Staff of Horton High who helped by covering Mrs. Webb’s classes  The Nova Scotia Education Facilities Society, for helping to support our trip with an educational grant!
