Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Kelp Forest And Temperate Ocean Ecosystem By Sean, Sara, Devin, Kerrigan

Monterey Bay… …Is located right off the coast of California. The sanctuary was established in 1977. A marine sanctuary is almost like a national forest, but instead of being on land, it is in the water. Monterey Bay is known as the Kelp Forest or Temperate Ocean.

The Main Organisms Primary Consumers Abalone California Sheep Head Spiny Brittle Star Secondary Consumers Garibaldi Sea Otter Bat Star Producers Sun Giant Kelp

Food Web Who Eats Who

Food web Tertiary consumers: Sea Otter Red Octopus Primary consumers: Giant Green Anemone Senorita California Sheephead Turban Snail Producers: Red Algae Giant Kelp Zoo Plankton Phytoplankton Decomposers: Marine Bacteria California Spiny Lobster

Some Abiotic factors in Monterey bay are: Monterey Bay mostly have at the bottom of the ocean is hard granite and sandy floors and under water canyons.. Every 3 to 7 years El Nino disrupts the ocean atmosphere system in the pacific ocean and it can cause current patterns near the equator. Also water in the currents feed Monterey Bay

People’s Affects Lots of people are causing the population of fish to die down, mainly because of people fishing in Monterey Bay. Lots of people are also harvesting kelp. They are collecting the kelp because there is an ingredient called align. Align makes foods soft and creamy. Align is found in pudding, salad dressing, gravy, etc.

Things That Keep us Safe and Don’t No dumping waste or oil Water cannons Don’t Fish Drill for oil
