Project1: Design a high performance network for a modern second school Aims : design a high speed network for a secondary school. Objectives:  Define requirements of this network. (scale, capacity, web server, file share server, virtual learning environment, mobility, administration, voice/video over IP, connection to parents, security, space for further extension, etc.)  Develop design criteria (green, sustainable, remotely, mobility, smart, security)  Design the system on the floor plan  Implement a prototype system in the lab  Hardware choose and cost report  Outline difficulties you might expected

Westminster Academy at The Naim Dangoor Centre A new secondary school in West London, housing 1,175 pupils and 128 staff members. The principal had a powerful vision of learning for her school embracing new thinking in education and the ideals of the RSA Curriculum of the 21st century. The building is a creative, engaging environment that uses connectivity and flexibility to provide pupils with a place where they take individual responsibility for their education and encourages team working by both staff and pupils. The bold, stratified façade of green and yellow terracotta tiles provides a dramatic new landmark for the community. ter-academy-at-the-naim-dangoor-centre/intro

Project2: Design a smart security system for a modern second school Aims : design a modern security and surveillance system integrated with existing LAN, WiFi and Internet technology. Objectives:  Define existing LAN/WLAN and internet connection’s technical details. (scale, capacity, services provided)  Define requirements of the upgraded network. (new services, CCTV, IP camera, burglar alarms, central surveillance, remote alarm/control/monitoring, etc.)  Develop design criteria (security level, green, sustainable, remotely, mobility, smart)  Design the system on the floor plan  Implement a prototype system in the lab  Hardware choose and cost report  Outline difficulties you might expected

High School of the Future High Performance “Green” Design Type: High School Footage: Grades: 9-12 Acreage: Completion: 09/06 Capacity: 800

First Floor Plan The main school street starts from the main entrance and will be the unifying element that connects all the major spaces on the first floor as well as activities on the third floor. These spaces include interactive learning centre, administration, gymnasium, local rooms fitness centre with court entrance to lower level performance centre on the upper floors. From the main entrance along the interactive learning centre the street will have skylights with translucent panels providing natural light as it transitions into a two-story volume with a glass wall overlooking Fairmont Park and Gerard Avenue.

Second Floor Plan On the second floor the administration as well as the IT and work design spaces will offer an additional view to the streetscape. The school streets will be treated with finishes that will bring the outdoor atmosphere to this socially active space. This floor will contain general classrooms

School Streetscape School Street allows for non-classroom gathering spaces. It promotes a sense of a unified community or village so that all stakeholders accept responsibility for the general welfare of the school community. School Street allows for casual seating along street for self-directed, individualized and/or collaborative learning experiences.

GYM Main gymnasium has two- sided retractable bleachers with an 800 seat capacity. The wood flooring would be striped for volleyball and basketball games with four additional backboards at each court for practices. Attractive translucent panels and skylights would provide natural light. The suite gymnasium would also be used as a community sports center and would have direct access to the playing fields, future 5-K cross country biking, and blading track that is to be incorporated into the master plan for the centennial district.

Food Court The Food Court design and accommodations encourage students to utilize services and remain on campus Environment provides opportunities for student collaboration outside the traditional learning environment. Wireless capability allows for student-to- student and staff-to- student interaction away from the classroom

Performance Center The Performance Centre uses the world of theatre arts as a device to heighten student awareness and appreciation for the many expressions of the human condition and spirit. The 480 seat auditorium with standard seating and a full stage and orchestra pit support theatre art forms. The small, convertible, performance spaces on rotating hydraulics allow for recitals, lectures, readings, and community meetings.

General Classroom The General Classroom offers Flexibility based on minimal fixed classroom assets including furniture and equipment The space offers shared classroom flex space with moveable walls along instructional wings.
