Koalas Caitilin & Alaina

What they do and communicate They are nocturnal. It means they stay up all night. They climb down the trees. Koalas are quiet. Koalas do not have a hammock made of bamboo. Koalas jump branch to branch or tree to tree. To get away from predators, koalas hide in the trees. Koalas communicate by grunting, screeching, or even screaming.

Babies And Smell And Feel Koala babies are called joeys. Joeys don’t have hair when they are born. Baby koalas ride on it’s mom’s back until it’s one year old. After one year young koalas live on their own. Koalas are furry , fuzzy or soft. They smell like cough drops.

Body And Dangers Koalas have kind of oval shaped noses. They have short arms and legs. The thumb and the first finger are close together to make one part. They have cheek pouches like hamsters. The baby is the size of a jelly bean. Koalas have a pouch. They have two thumbs and sharp claws. Their size is two to three feet long. Dingoes, pet dogs, foxes and owls are all predators. Fire is a dangerous thing to koalas. Cars can hit koalas. They are endangered because their habitat is getting cut down.

What They Live In. Koalas live on reserves where they are protected and safe. They live on the east side of Australia on the coast and in the mountains.

What They Are Not Related To And What They Look Like. Koalas are not amphibians or reptiles, but instead they are a marsupial mammal. Koalas aren’t bears. Koalas are gray and black. Koalas are related to wombats.

What They Eat Koalas don’t eat termites. Koalas don’t eat bugs. They don’t eat something besides leaves. Koalas eat a little dirt, because it helps their stomach digest. Koalas eat eucalyptus leaves. Koalas are being taken to places where there is plenty of food. They mostly sleep and eat. The word koala means-does not drink. Koala are picky eaters.
