History of School Based Law Enforcement The use of police officers in schools has roots dating back to the 1950’s 1953 – Flint, Michigan 1963 – Tucson, Arizona 1967 – Cincinnati, Ohio 1968 – Los Angeles 1980’s to Present – Steady increase across the United States.

What is a School Resource Officer (SRO)? Definition Definition –A School Resource Officer is a career law enforcement officer, with sworn authority, deployed in community oriented policing, assigned by the employing police department or agency to work in collaboration with schools.
