How do our elementary schools compare to other comparable elementary schools in the nation? : It is difficult to compare our students with national norms. The only grades that take a standardized tests are grades 1,2,3, and 6. Grades 1 and 2 and optional tests that are not part of our accountability. Unless funds are located to pay for this tests, we will not have this info in the future; Grade 3 is supposed to be continued by the state, and grades 1,2, and 6 will have to be funded by the school/ district if we opt to continue this assessment.

Optional 1 st Grade Testing CTB Results The score shows where our kids ranked out of 100. For example, our 1st grade students scored a 45. That means 55% of all students in the nation scored higher than our students.

State Required 3rd Grade CTB Results 50 students Reading = 34 Language = 31 Math = 37 Total Battery= 32 (68% of students in the nation scored higher than our students). There was not a significance difference in the performance between males and females

State Required 6 th Grade CTB Results 45 Students Reading = 66 Language = 59 Math = 71 Total Battery= 68 (31% of students in the nation scored higher than our students). Although the male and female population is almost the same, females out scored males in each category (Reading 8; Language 8,1; Math 8; Total Battery 10)

How effective are the JES early remediation programs? This is the first year for JES to participate in the Professional Development Reading Grant. As the data is available, we can begin to evaluate the effectiveness of the program. The Summer Institute provided intense Professional Development in the five critical areas of reading. Through increased awareness of Scientifically Based Reading Research methods, teachers will be able to provide explicit, systematic instruction in these areas. The purpose of the Reading First Initiative is to eliminate deficits in reading while increasing the number of students exiting primary reading on grade level. The 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program is a U.S. Department of Education program, administered through the states, providing grants to schools, youth development agencies, community and faith-based organizations, to provide high quality, expanded learning opportunities outside of regular school hours for children in a safe and sound educational environment. The main purposes of this program are to: –Provide opportunities for academic enrichment to help students at risk meet Federal, State and local student performance standards in core academic subjects; –Offer students a broad array of additional services, programs and activities, that are designed to reinforce and compliment the regular academic program of participating students; –Offer families of students served by 21st CCKC opportunities for literacy and related educational development.

How does curriculum flow between elementary, middle, and high schools? The Core Content for Assessment has changed this year. It now is grade specific for grades 3-8. JES determines what will be taught a in the primary at each level. High school courses are designed to ensure the CCA is taught in the core classes.

Jenkins Elementary State Contest Results: The Academic Team competed in the District & Regional Governor’s Cup Competitions. Results are as follows: District Governor’s Cup: Quick Recall Team—1st Place; Written Assessments: 2nd & 4th Place Mathematics; 1st & 2nd Place Science; 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Place Social Studies; 2nd & 3rd Place Language Arts. Final Standings District Governor’s Cup—-1st Place Regional Governor’s Cup--Written Assessment: 2nd Place Science. Final Standings Regional Governor’s Cup—-9th Place

Awards and Recognitions: An Awards Ceremony is held each year to recognize the academic success and exemplary attendance of students. Students are honored for achieving proficient & distinguished on CATS and a CTBS national percentile of 75% and above. All A and A/B Honor Roll certificates are given each six weeks in grades 3rd-6th by the superintendent. Sports awards banquets are held.

What We are Doing to Improve: JES is dedicated to improving the achievement of all students. Through on-going monitoring and analysis of data, the staff is working to identify areas for improvement and striving to improve their instructional stragies through opportunities that enhance their individual professional growth. Comprehensive School Improvement Planning combines programs to provide the greatest leverage for academic success.
