Childhood continued… Jimmy Carter attended public schools in Plains, Georgia. While growing up African Americans were not allowed to go to the same school as Whites. After high school Jimmy Carter attended college at Georgia Southwestern College and Georgia Institute of Technology!

Navy Life Jimmy Carter joined the United States Navy and became a submariner. He served in the Atlantic and Pacific fleets and eventually became a lieutenant. While in the Navy he got to travel the world. The Navy also gave him the opportunity to learn a lot about other people and places around the world. In July 1946 he married his wife Rosalynn Smith!

The Makings of A Leader Senator In 1962 Jimmy Carter became a part of the Georgia State Senate. He attempted to integrate schools to stop African American student from attending separate schools nut he was unsuccessful. Governor In 1966 he ran for Governor of Georgia yet he lost; but 4 years later he ran again and was elected. As governor Jimmy Carter fought for: education, jobs and equal rights. He wanted every Georgian to have a good education and he worked hard to help find jobs. He also fought hard to allow African Americans to be treated fairly and have equal rights.

President Jimmy Carter Jimmy Carter became the 39 th President of the United States of America in While in office he provided government job for African American women, got congress to pass laws to protect national parks, plants and wildlife. He got Egypt and Israel (two countries who had been at war with each other) to stop fighting and sign a piece agreement.

Camp David Accords The Camp David Accords is the most common name given to the historic peace accords forged between Israel and Egypt in Leaders from both countries met at Camp David in Maryland with the President of the United States, Jimmy Carter. The agreed pact was signed on March 26, 1979, in Washington, D.C. by Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian President Anwar al-Sadat, with President Carter signing as a witness. The pact called for a formal peace treaty between the two nations, a better diplomatic relationship, Israeli withdrawal from the Sinai Peninsula, and an end to Israeli settlements in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. President Carter helped negotiate terms because he cares about everybody's human rights.
