The mission of the Orcutt Area Seniors in Service, Inc., is to provide social, educational and cultural opportunities for all adults over the age of 50 to help them preserve and improve their quality of life. MISSION STATEMENT

In 1984, the Oasis Senior Center opened its door providing services aimed at encouraging our members and all adults programs that enrich their lives and increase their knowledge and experiences. WHO WE ARE Since the beginning we have been guided by the following principles: To educate and encourage change in attitudes of the public at large regarding the status of all senior citizens in our community To prevent conditions that may lead to senior citizens to a life of inactivity, loneliness, or being neglected or abused To enhance the delivery, coordination and development of services for senior citizens and their families To provide for ongoing community support of senior citizens and senior services Oasis Pancake breakfast At the heart of our mission is the idea that the Center was created by seniors for seniors and run primarily through the involvement of seniors. Over 170 seniors volunteer their valuable time, energy and experiences; in 2012, Oasis Center volunteers provided over 12,350 hours of volunteer service, making this a place where Seniors Serve Seniors!

Today, the Center has 700 active members and over 3,400 unduplicated Santa Maria Valley residents access services on a regular basis; making the Oasis Senior Center the largest senior organization in the Santa Maria Valley. WHO WE SERVE “If Oasis Center were not here, I’d miss the activities, but mostly the atmosphere and the people.” June Miller, Member, Oasis Senior Center Gender of those servedAges of those servedWhere our members reside

WHAT WE DO Every day, seniors and non-seniors alike come to the Oasis Center for a variety of activities: Health & Wellness Classes Music and dance opportunities Hot, nutritious lunches Lectures and presentations Support Groups Potluck dinners/Pancake breakfasts Computer classes Games Travel clubs Cultural Events And so much more…. ACCOMPLISHMENTS Oasis Travel Club Trips planned to Pigeon Fork Tennessee, Ashland, Oregon, & Alaska Operation Cookie Drop Over 70 homebound seniors received homemade cookies during the holidays Celebrating Our World A monthly program recognizing different cultures through food, discussion, music & dance Operation Gobble Almost 100 individuals and families received a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner Oasis Hiking Group With hikes the first and third Mondays of each month Oasis Book Club Meets the fourth Friday of each month Oasis Hiking Club Over the past few years we’ve developed new programs and activities with the goal of attracting more seniors and a new outreach campaign to baby-boomers:

The Oasis Senior Center is located on property owned by the Orcutt School District; however, as times change, the school district has developed a different and alternative use for the property. Situated in small modular buildings pieced together by patios and hallways; the Center is in desperate need of a new home. These two issues combined have required us to begin the process of planning, development, and the ultimate purpose of relocating to a new and larger Oasis Senior Center. TODAY

THE FUTURE – INVESTMENT & IMPACT Senior Centers act as a gateway to the nations aging population, they are a community focal point and one of the most used services among older adults allowing older adults to access multiple services in one place. Research shows that older adults who participate in senior center programs can learn to manage and delay the onset of chronic disease and experience measurable improvements in their physical, social, mental and economic well-being. Your gift to the Oasis Senior Center Raising a New Oasis capital campaign will: Provide greater access to surrounding neighborhoods as well as the City of Santa Maria Expand current programs and activities such as our daily hot lunch program, support groups, exercise classes and numerous other activities Serve more seniors, aging baby-boomers, and the community at-large Provide more supportive programs designed to encourage healthy land active lifestyles From the beginning we have remained inspired and energized. We hope you will consider being part of our campaign and join us on this journey – Raising a New Oasis
