 To integrate BIPV systems in homes in order to capture the most light and provide other benefits Skylight using BIPV systems

 BIPV systems are PV systems that are integrated into the building structure.  They act as both solar panels and as part of the building. Such as shingles, windows, or siding.

The benefits of BIPV system mainly derive from:  energy cost savings  enhanced power quality and reliability  reduced environmental emissions  rebates and other incentives  They also can provide the function of protecting the building from the weather and avoiding the use of other building materials.

Problems:  Shading  Fixed Angle vs. Changing Solar Rays  Location/Type of BIPV  Overall Structure Design of the Home

Solutions  The suns angles change seasonally and therefore shadows are cast at different angles at different parts of the year and different times of the day.  In order for the solar house to be productive all year round, adjustable BIPV panels are incorporated into the roof of the house that change according to season.

Solutions:  We chose the location of the BIPV panels according to where the most sunlight was going to hit the house (the south side) and we chose BIPV instead of solar panels because they are 50% more efficient.  The house is designed to be small, and the angle of the room was chosen because of its light collecting potential year round and awnings are used to reduce the cooling load.

 Substitutes traditional roofing, performing their function and replacing traditional solar panels as well. Vs. From: From:

 Photovoltaic awnings can provide shade from the sun's heat, saving energy while also producing electricity. It's a win- win situation. BIPV awnings can be mounted over windows. From:

 Window shading can potentially reduce the building-cooling load. Benefits:  Electrical Power Generation  Cooling Load Reduction  Total Cost Reduction. Both From:

 According to family income and how a family would like to pay for a BIPV system, the price can range from $24000 to $40000 including installation. There is usually a fee of $10 - $12 per watt installed.

Features:  BIVP roofing, windows, and covers  Roof at best angle for year round solar collection from the south side  BIVP systems replaced need for shingles and shutters
