BEGINNING ADMINISTRATOR (BA) INDUCTION

 The BA Mentoring Program aligns with the AR Leader Excellence and Development System (LEADS)  Arkansas LEADS is based on the 2008 Standards for School Leaders developed by the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC)

Building Level Administrator  Principal  Assistant Principal Curriculum/Program Administrator  Special Education  Gifted and Talented  Career/Technical  Curriculum Specialist  Content Area Specialist  Adult Education

 Dean of Students  Instructional Facilitators or Coaches Check with school district for how job is “coded” or consult the “Job Code List for Licensed Positions with No Students Attached”. Positions Not Qualified for Mentoring

 An administrator with a Standard License, newly assigned to an administrator position and has never been an administrator before  Any administrator who is coded as a building level administrator or curriculum program administrator, newly assigned to an administrator position, and has never attended Arkansas Induction  Any administrator on an ALCP must attend induction each year until the ALCP is completed

 An administrator who has a Standard License, newly assigned to an administrator position and has never been an administrator before  A building level administrator changing to a curriculum program administrator position for the first time must be mentored but does attend induction  A curriculum program administrator changing to a building level administrator position for the first time must be mentored but does not attend induction

Initial License  There is no longer an Initial license  A BA with an Initial license should convert to a Standard license (Contact the Office of Professional Licensure) Standard Administrator License  A BA with a Standard license and less than one year of administrative experience is required to be mentored one year  No longer tied to mentoring Administrator License Completion Plan (ALCP)  Mentored for up to three years  Upon completion of the ALCP, the BA should immediately apply for a Standard license

 Must hold a standard administrator license  Must have at least one (1) year of administrator experience in the area being mentored (not required to be presently in the position)  “Should” be located in the same SD as BA but may be from a neighboring district

 Must be trained in the Arkansas Mentoring Model  Any mentor assigned to mentor a BA for the school year, must attend Mentor Training August 4, 2014 if he/she was not trained in

 August 4, 2014 Mentors and BAs trained separately at the little Rock Marriott (formerly the Peabody) from 8:30 am until noon  August 4, 2014 Mentors and BAs meet together in the afternoon session from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

 August 5, 2014 BAs required to attend AAEA sessions equivalent to six (6) hours which can include general sessions  August 6, 2014 BAs may attend designated sessions on this day if needing to complete the required six (6) hours

September 15, 2014  Make-up Induction Meeting for all BAs and Mentors identified after the August meeting or unable to attend the August meeting  BAs attending September 15 must also attend one of the three following AAEA conferences to earn the required six hours of session time.  AAEA Joint Principal Fall Conference, September 18-19, Arlington Hotel, Hot Springs  AAEA Assistant Principal Fall Conference, October 14, Little Rock Doubletree Hotel  AAEA Fall Conference, October 30-31, 2014, Little Rock Doubletree Hotel  A Commissioner’s Memo will be posted in August with registration and specific information

 BAs must complete, by December 31, 2014, two (2) on-line modules in Arkansas MOODLE  Two (2) additional modules must be completed by May 1, 2015

 All BAs, Mentors, and PDs will receive MOODLE passwords by  PDs, Mentors, and BAs may access Arkansas MOODLE via ATLAS

 There are tutorials in MOODLE for each role (PD, BA, Mentor)  There are also Mentor and BA tutorials on the ADE website on the Beginning Administrator page

 PD will access a report in MOODLE and ATLAS showing all BAs in the district and which modules have been completed  A file upload from MOODLE to ATLAS will be done periodically to update a BA’s module completion status in ATLAS  ATLAS will send an reminder to the BA in November and January if required modules have not been completed

BA MENTORS WILL:  Collaborate with the BA face to face, by phone, , and text as he/she works to complete the on- line modules  Approve completed module assignments and completed modules  Verify collaboration with the BA in MOODLE (hours are no longer be entered in ATLAS)

BA MENTORS WILL:  Submit verification of collaboration As a mentor, I approve the work on this module. I have spent time assisting the Beginning Administrator (BA) with the module by helping him/her with reflection and application of the concepts provided. Methods used to support the BA in completion of the module could include face-to-face collaboration, ing, texting, and /or phone conversations with the BA.

BA MENTORS WILL:  Receive a $400 stipend for completing mentoring requirements  If mentor is from another district he/she can be paid as contract labor by the BA’s district

PD will:  Identify Beginning Administrators immediately and enter the “new hire” in ATLAS on the New Hire screen  If the BA does not have an ATLAS profile, the BA should not create a profile until the new hire information is entered and submitted

PD will:  Ensure BA and Mentor create/update an ATLAS Profile ( This action is urgent)  Pair BA-Mentor by relevant work experience - mentor is not required to be in the position but have had experience in the position  Notify BA Program Advisor of any BAs who will be mentored but do not have to attend induction (This action is urgent)

PD will:  Submit BA-Mentor Pairing Form via ATLAS no later than September 30  EVEN IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A BA PAIR the pairing forms must be submitted  Submit End of Year Budget via ATLAS by July 31  If you have not submitted your BA pairing form, you will not be able to create the EYB Form

Monitoring for BA mentoring is done by ADE Office of Standards and Assurances

 August or September Induction attendance – Certificate will be received by (Mentor & BA)  Certificate of completion in MOODLE for each module completed (BA)  Certificate in MOODLE upon completion of the Induction Program (BA)

Failure to complete the mentoring process with fidelity will be considered a violation of the Arkansas Code of Ethics
