In General Depended on the social class –The Wealthy wide range of food –The Peasants simple menu Heart-healthy –low in calories –low in fat –high in fiber Lacked Vitamins -A, C, and D -Ale was drank

The Wealthy Birds –capons, geese, larks, and chickens Fish –salmon, herring, eels –fresh, smoked, salted Other meats –Beef, Bacon, Lamb Vegetables –eaten with meats –grown in the castle garden

The Peasants Breads –barley –rye Drinks –water from the well –ale from the barley –sweetened with honey Protien –peas –beans Pottage –thick soup –Onions, cabbage, garlic, nuts, berries, leeks, spinach, parsley –fatty bacon, salty pork

Let’s EAT!! Baked Apples in Pastry 2 apples 3 cups flour 1 1/2 tsp. salt 3/4 cup vegetable shortening 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese Tbs. ice-cold water 1/2 cup (1/2 stick) butter 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1. Combine flour, salt, vegetable shortening, and cheese. 2. Add in water. 3. Peel apple and cut into chunks. 4. Roll out dough and cut into rectangles. 5. Combine butter, sugar, and cinnamon and spread on dough. 6. Place apple on rectangle and roll up dough.
