Our Facilities UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School As one of the nation’s leading comprehensive medical schools, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS), with campuses in New Brunswick, Piscataway and Camden, is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in education, research, healthcare delivery and the promotion of community health for the residents of New Jersey. As one of eight schools of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey system, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School is separate from all other UMDNJ schools, including The New Jersey Medical School in Newark. With 2,400 full- time and volunteer faculty, the medical school maintains educational programs at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels for more than 1,500 students, as well as continuing education courses for healthcare professionals. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital With its central location in New Brunswick, its status as a Level 1 Trauma Center and the depth of healthcare resources available, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) is a leader in the provision of Emergency Care to the residents of central New Jersey. RWJUH is the only academic medical center and provider of tertiary and quaternary healthcare services in central New Jersey. Immediately adjacent to RWJUH is the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital, providing state-of-the-art care to the pediatric patients of central New Jersey. Our Residency Program RWJMS EM Residency Information: ● Three year program ● ONE clinical campus: Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital/ Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ ● High-volume level 1 trauma center caring for both penetrating and blunt trauma patients ● Tertiary care pediatrics with a separate Pediatric ED staffed with pediatric EM faculty who see over 25,000 patients per year ● Busy Adult ED serving a diverse population of patients totaling over 65,000 per year ● Support from all specialties and subspecialties available 24/7 ● Safe and modern facilities ● Heavily Emergency Department- weighted clinical experience ● PGY 1 7 blocks Adult ED 2 blocks Peds ED 1 block Anesthesia/Ultrasound 1 block Obstetrics/Procedures 1 block Trauma 0.5 block EMS/0.5 block Procedures ● PGY 2 8 blocks Adult ED 1 block Peds ED 1 block Pediatric ICU 1 block Trauma/Surgical ICU 1 block Medical ICU 1 block Toxicology ● PGY 3 11 ED blocks (both adult and peds shifts) 1 block Administration/Research 1 block Elective Our Department The Department of Emergency Medicine established a presence at the New Brunswick campus in Since then, we have become an important and influential voice in the medical school, hospital and medical group. Currently the emergency medicine faculty include: ● 19 Full-time Emergency Medicine trained, board certified or board prepared physicians ● 7 Pediatric Emergency Medicine board certified or board prepared physicians. EMS Our department sponsors an Emergency Medical Services/Disaster Medicine Fellowship. Prior fellows have gone on to EMS leadership roles in Dallas, Denver, Philadelphia and New York. Toxicology Our faculty includes Dr. Ann Jeanette Geib, a fellowship-trained toxicologist, providing consults on patients through the hospital. During the toxicology rotation, residents will be a part of the consult team, taking an active role in caring for these patients across the hospital. Emergency Ultrasonography (EUS) Our faculty also includes 2 fellowship trained, EUS experts: Rajesh Geria, MD, RDMS, and Dan Morrison, MD, RDMS. Most faculty are credentialed in the life saving applications of EUS including eFAST, cardiac, aorta, vascular access and 1 st trimester pelvic ultrasound. There is extensive, hands on training for residents. Our ultrasound fe**llowship will accept it’s first fellow this year who will begin to train with us July 2013.
