Defining some terms and ideas

Limited War : War which involves fighting only between professional armies on a clearly defined battlefield Minimal effect on civilian populations of both sides Total War : Any and all strategies, tactics, and weapons are used to defeat the enemy Nation organizes itself economically and politically in support of the war effort Civilians are intentionally targeted in order to break the will of the enemy Total war was facilitated in early 20 th century due to the development of more destructive technology

Strategy: Relating to the higher conduct and war aims of a war.
