THE STANDARDS  23 standards which address technology in K-5  55 standards in K-12 require the use of technology in some way  technology-k12 technology-k12

A DIFFERENT WAY OF THINKING Evolution of iPad use in the classroom…  REMEMBER:  Change takes time!  It’s a process  Not everyone goes through all steps…

EXCITEMENT OR RELUCTANCE  One or the other… usually.  “OMG I love new things!”  “Here we go again – something new to learn.”

CONCERN Uh-Oh!  How do I actually use this thing?   IPAds-for-Learning_Getting-Started IPAds-for-Learning_Getting-Started

APP HAPPY! There’s an APP for that (really–there usually is)  Over 800,000 apps (as of March 2013)  56.2% of those are free  MANY are great… even more are junk

TIME FILLER We might get to the iPads  “Later on”  “If we have time”  “If you get done with your work”  “If you are good”

CONSUMPTION Obtaining information using the iPads  Reading  Internet, iBooks, RAZ, Dropbox  Listening  iTunes (rip books on CD to iPads), OverDrive, PodcastsOverDrivePodcasts  Watching  Edmodo (organize YouTube, etc.), Discovery Ed. EdmodoDiscovery Ed.

SEAMLESS INTEGRATION  The 3 C’s: all together now!  Consumption  Creation  Collaboration  The iPad just becomes a natural part of the learning… students come up with ways to use it

We don’t have ipads? How can you get iPads to use in the classroom? FOR MY CLASSROOM

FUNDING  Grants: District Level, Community Level  Get Families Involved  Watch for matching funding programs
