Calisto Gets Sick! No appetite Lying down Colic or Colitis? Back to slideshow

Side-effects of Colitis Stomach problems caused dehydration and loss of protein. Disease can be deadly Back to slideshow

Fluids Here you can see the fluids hanging from the top of his stall Back to slideshow

Ice Boots Preventatives When removed: laminitis began Back to slideshow

Getting Better As you can see, his personality was getting happier His sickness was wearing away, but there was more to come… Back to slideshow

Calisto Gets Laminitis Came from his high fever and illness (Colitis) Also came from toxins Back to slideshow

Problems We took Calisto back to get radiographs to see how bad the problem really was He had rotated to the side Mansman’s farrier shod him Wasn’t good Back to slideshow

Shoes Calisto has tried many shoes Most effective: shoe held on by fiberglass cast (L) and egg bar shoe with inside packing (R) Back to slideshow

Light Treatment Infrared lights on pads 3 stages Helped to increase blood flow Back to slideshow

Today Calisto has been doing great after he finally got over laminitis

But… A few months ago Calisto suffered a minor relapse of his laminitis Unfortunately we do not know what caused it

Slow Progress Calisto and I had to first only hand walk and hand graze until his foot was ready

First Walk and Trot

Looking Ahead I am now able to walk, trot, and canter him However, it will be awhile until I am able to fully do everything I used to do and competitions are questionable

Meanwhile… I was giving Calisto and my dog, Butch the supplement glucosamine to help with the health of their joints Calisto was given an injection and Butch got it in pill form

Butch! My dog Butch is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi He is 11 years old and as he is getting older we thought that giving him glucosamine would help him be more comfortable

Energy UP! Went from this   To always wanting to be outside and running around and always wanting to play!!

Calisto Before Calisto got his laminitis the glucosamine was helping him to have more hunter-like movement and he was on his way to getting many show ribbons!

Conclusion Advancements in medicine have really been wonderful for both of my animals and have really improved the quality of their life I would definitely recommend giving glucosamine to a pet that might need some help with their joints, it was very successful for my two
