To open Environmental Index, click on the Search inside OARE full-text through database and article searching list.

Environmental Issues and Policy Index (EBSCO) Once Browse databases list is open, click on Environmental Issues & Policy Index (EBSCO).

The default page is the Basic Search display. We will enter the pesticides AND water quality in the search box and click on Search. Note the other options – Advanced Search and Search History. EBSCO Host notes that OARE is the client. This means there will be access to full-text articles.

There are 1321 Results for this search. To view the first article, we will click on the OARE fulltext icon. Another important option is the Add to folder.

After clicking on the OARE fulltext icon, there are multiple links to the article and journal. If these links do not grant access to the full-text article, there are various steps to solve this problem (see the next slide). See the next slide – (Module 3 Appendix) Access Problems and Solutions is an overview of ‘problem solving’ options.

OARE Module 3 Appendix: Access Problems and Solutions for Full-text Articles This module is an overview of numerous access problems to OARE and/or the other R4L portals. Included is information on how to access a journal if the publisher does not immediately grant access – something that periodically occurs when using the Environmental Issues and Policy Index.

From the right column, now opened is the Abstract for this article. Note the option to Add to folder. Now click on the Detailed Record. The + symbol icon adds citations to the folder without opening abstract.

Displayed is the Detailed Record. Note the Subject Terms, Keywords and Abstract listing. The right column contains links to multiple tools including Print, , Save and Export.

Note the Folder has items box. Listed are the articles that have been added to the folder.

Now displayed is the Folder with the tagged articles with the Print, , Save as File and Export options.

Displayed is the Print Manager option.

Displayed is the E- mail Manager option

The final display is the Save Manager option

Re-open the results of the pesticides AND water quality search. This can be done by clicking on the Search History link or using the web browser’s back button several times. In Refine Results, there are several options to limit the results. Displayed here are the Linked Full Text, References Available, Publication Dates and Source Types options.

The Publication Date bar has been moved to limit the search to 2012 – 2015 publications. After clicking on the Update icon, the search results # is 310. Note the Limiters list info and the X symbol that is used to clear the search results.

Note the Subject Thesaurus Term list that also can be used to refine a search.

This is the Search History page. Note that the initial and refined searches are listed. For each search, there are View Results, View Details or Edit options. Other options are to complete a Search with AND or Search with OR or Delete Searches.

Now opened is the Advanced Search page which gives you numerous options - to make your search more precise. Note the options from the drop down menu for the initial keyword entry. There also are various Search modes and Limit your results options.

The Sign In to My EBSCOhost page has been opened. You will need this personal account to use some of the Environmental Index options including viewing previously saved searches. Click on Create a new Account. You can access this page by clicking on the Sign In option that is on the top of the search page.
