There are 3 main types of music video: Performance, narrative and conceptual.

Codes and Conventions The Different Techniques and Meaning in a Video Digetic and Non-Digetic Sound, Style and Pace of Editing, Genre Symbolic Presentation of Meaning

Camera Shots Music videos as with an form of film or television medium employ a variety of camera shots to relate with the audience and convey certain feelings and ideas to the viewer.

Camera Angles Along with camera shots the angle of the camera is also very important in music videos. It helps to convey meanings and feelings attached to the images the audience is seeing.

Sound There are two types of sound: Digetic is where the sound is part of what we are seeing (e.g. a radio or speaking within) Non-Digetic is where the sound is added afterwards (e.g. the song)

Sound Parallel This is when the video reflects the song: e.g. if the song is slow, the video is slow paced.

Mise-en-scene An expression used to describe the design aspects of a theatre or film production, which essentially means "visual theme" or "telling a story“. Lighting, Props, Costume, Hair & Make-up, Location, Colour etc.
