RESEARCH PAPER THESIS: America is home to many types of trout. There are many types of lures and dough baits. There are many local places in the mountians we live in. FACTS: The Rebel wee-Craw is designed to imitate a crawfish scooting across the bottom, this 2-inch-long crankbait reaches 5-7 feet. Smithwick Rattlin’ Rogue is a great choice for the larger trout. The Rogue offers pretty color flash and erratic action, along with the ability to sit motionless – a common strike-triggering tactic.

PHYSICAL PROJECT The physical part of my project ( 15 hours ) I have taking the time to travel to multiple places to trout fish with my mentor. Rod Vest Baits Tackle

WHAT IVE LEARNED THROUGH THE PROCESS Best baits Types of trout Best places to fish in the western North Carolina mountains

BEST BAITS When finding the best baits to use, you need to focus on the type of water you are fishing. I have learned to use dough baits in slower moving waters. For the faster moving waters, I have learned to throw a spinner or a powerbait grub worm.

POWERBAIT Powerbait is a great choice to go with. Trout feed off of colorful baits. Being said, Berkley has many different colors.

TROUT SPINNERS

TYPES OF TROUT When trying to figure out the type of trout, I have learned many ways to tell the difference in the. Brown trout: The brown trout is easy to identify. To tell the brown trout apart from the other species of fish, I look for the red and black speckles on the body of the fish. Rainbow trout: The rainbow trout Is the easiest to identify. When identifying the rainbow trout I look for the rainbow colors of the fish.

PLACES TO FISH IN THE LOCAL MOUNTAINS In the local mountains, I have found many different places to fish. I have fished at Davidson River, Mills River and Bent Creek. Just about an hour and a half away from Asheville, I traveled to Cherokee, NC and fished some of the hatchery supported streams, as well as the wild life streams.

SUCCESSES The success that I have over come during this project is overwhelming. I had planned to catch a monster trout. At a local river ( Davidson River ) I landed a 5 pound, 22inch rainbow trout. The experience was unreal. It took me a long time to finally hook a big one, but I was extremely proud of the time and the struggles I put in to hook the monster fish.

CHALLENGES The major challenges I faced where having my line broken off or tangles up every few casts. Fishing takes a lot of time and struggles to overcome. I was not expecting the cost of the baits and the amounts of fish and lures I lost. i figured out different ways to change that. From it being a larger pound test of line, to smaller weights. Another huge challenge I faced was a $100 dollar rod snapped In half.

MENTOR REFLECTION Tyler has been one of the best mentors around. Being a part of another fisherman's life shows a huge impact. Any fisherman can tell you, its more interesting and more fun to fish with another person then to fish alone. Tyler taught me multiple things, from the best types of baits to throw all the way down to the smallest things including rods, rivers, hook, Etc. A local member of the buncombe county community, Tyler has been a friend since way back when.

CONCLUSION I have learned that the future doesn't hold as much as I figured It would. As much as I would love to have a career in fishing, there isn’t many jobs to do. Yes, there is famous TV shows and youtube channels, but people do it mainly for fun. I learned what I liked and what I didn’t like in the first few weeks of the project. Even though the struggles have been hard to overcome, there is no other experience I would of rather had then what I chose. I will be continuing the fishing experience for the rest of my life. I will also pass down the hobby to my children in the future.
