Ultrasound Technician By: Caitlyn Klemme Not everybody can tolerate that. Some already have issues with their legs, and we can't put cuffs on their legs. We perform an ultrasound test on their legs. ~ Brenda ClarkBrenda Clark

Introduction * An ultrasound technician’s job is to use advanced tools/machines to take pictures of certain parts of the body. In the future all the tools/machines will be upgraded to new technology. Ultrasound technicians are well trained medical professionals in operating medical imaging equipment. * “I was watching the technicians' face while she was first doing the ultrasound looking for a reaction of any kind.” - Wayne Anderson

What they do * Ultrasound technicians use high frequency sound waves to look at organs and structures in the patients body. Ultrasound technicians are known to be very helpful. They are very friendly and happy to be working with you. That’s a little bit of what they do. *“ Not everybody can tolerate that. Some already have issues with their legs, and we can't put cuffs on their legs. We perform an ultrasound test on their legs.” - Brenda Clark

Where they work * Ultrasound technicians work in all different kind of offices. They can work anywhere from offices of physicians to medical or diagnostic laboratories. There are two very popular places that Ultrasound technicians can work. That being said, the two most popular places for an ultrasound technician to work is in hospitals and clinics.

Tools they use * Ultrasound technicians use an instrument called a transducer. A transducer transmits high frequency sound waves through the body of the patient. As the sound waves bounce off the targeted body part or organ, there echoes are captured by specialized equipment. It then converts them into visual images.

Schools * To become an Ultrasound technician it does not take a lot of schooling. That being said it is a lot of hard work in those short years of going to college. Most colleges offer two to four year programs. It all depends on the degree rewarded.

Benefits * There are many benefits of being an ultrasound technician. You may earn up to $84.00 a year. On average it is one of the best paying jobs in the country.” By identifying high-risk patients, ultrasound would allow doctors to provide aggressive treatment early.” - Claude Lenfant

Regular to New Job * Ultrasound technicians are well trained medical professionals in operating medical imaging equipment. In the future ultrasound technicians will still be required to do the same job, but the technology will change when it comes to using the machines.

Extra Schooling or Training * In the future ultrasound technicians will need more training when it comes to using the new technology. The machines will be more advanced in the future. That makes it a little more complicated to be trained in the short period of time that it is taking now. The machines will be easier to use and more accurate when it comes down to the information it is providing.

How Technology Will Change * The technology will change a lot from now to years from now. Technology in the future will force the ultrasound technician field to upgrade to advanced machines. It will allow the job of an ultrasound technician to be done more accurate and efficient.

Benefits of the New Job *There are a lot of benefits of the new job that the future will create. The ultrasound technician field will upgrade to new equipment and machines. When that occurs it will make the nurses job a lot easier. It will allow the ultrasound technician to get the job done faster but at the same time more accurate and efficient.

Glossary * Accurate- very precise, perfect, exact * Efficient- well organized, not wasteful * Frequency- rate of recurrence. * Professional- an expert at a certain job. Example: a Brewer player is a professional athlete. * Transducer- transmits high frequency sound waves through the body of the patient.
