Lungs and breathing

Why do we have lungs? When we breathe in, air goes into our lungs. We need air to stay alive. We breathe all the time.

Lung facts When you are asleep, you breathe slowly. When you run about, you breathe faster because your body needs more air. Exercise helps your lungs to stay healthy.

Find out how much breath you have in your lungs Fill a bottle with water Stand it upside down in a bowl of water Put one end of a bendy drinking straw into the bottle Now take one deep breath and blow gently through the straw All the air from your lungs will now be trapped in the bottle
