DYNAMICS TROPICAL WAVES AND THE INTER- TROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE - WITH SUPPORT AT TIMES FROM UPPER-LEVEL TROUGHS, WERE THE MAIN IMPACTS ON T&T WEATHER DURING THE 2012 HURRICANE SEASON.

DYNAMICS IN THE ABSENCE OF SYNOPTIC-TYPE (SCALE) WEATHER SYSTEMS, LOCAL EFFECTS TOOK OVER. THIS TOOK THE FORM OF AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS WHICH WERE SEA-BREEZE INDUCED OFTEN RESULTING IN SHORT-LIVED FLASH FLOODS EVENTS IN THE CAPITAL CITY. AUGUST TO OCTOBER WAS THE FAVOURED PERIOD.

2012 HURRICANE SEASON IMPACTS. T & T IMPACTED BY ‘ROUTINE’ HURRICANE SEASON TYPE WEATHER SYSTEMS (NON- ROTATING) CAN BE TERMED AS BEING NORMAL. APART FROM JUNE, MONTHLY RAINFALL ACCUMULATIONS WERE BELOW AVERAGE.

2012 HURRICANE SEASON IMPACTS. EXTENSIVE RIVERINE FLOODING – 13 th JUNE, RAINFALL ACTIVITY ASSOCIATED WITH THE ITCZ. ITCZ INDUCED MODERATE TO HEAVY PERSISTENT SHOWERS AFFECTED T&T FROM 10 th – 13 th OCTOBER MM MEASURED AT PIARCO, TRINIDAD. LONG TERM AVERAGE FOR JUNE – MM.
