Presentation transcript:

Why are we fighting poverty here at home? World Vision takes on daunting challenges every day in some of the most destitute places on earth—but we can also see the deep effects of poverty for children in the U.S.:

Poverty in the U.S.: A grim picture

Becky’s story After her father died of colon cancer, 8-year-old Becky asked her mom a poignant question: “Who’s going to take care of me if something happens to you?”

Youth empowerment and success Vianeli,19, will tell you that she has many goals for the future—and one of them is to become the president of World Vision.

Giving kids a fresh start at school For parents living in poverty, the start of the school year is fraught with worry—not only about how they’ll feed and clothe their children but how they’ll pay for essential school supplies.

Our partners in fighting child poverty Joining forces with World Vision in the Child Champions program are more than 2,300 U.S. partners—churches, organizations, corporations, and nonprofits—that are helping build a better world for American children.

Being a Child Champion: What you’re giving By sharing $35 a month, you are helping change the lives of children in the U.S. You’re making a commitment that says: “Not today, tomorrow, or any other day. I won’t let poverty rob them of their hopes and dreams.” You’re helping fight child poverty in the United States to Rebuild Hope at Home.

What your $35 a month helps provide We combine your monthly gifts with that of other Child Champions across the U.S. to provide: Academic enrichment programs and scholarships School supplies Disaster response Essential items such as clothing, personal hygiene supplies, household cleaning products, and building materials Training for community organizations to empower young people

Being a Child Champion: What you’re receiving As a Child Champion, you’re part of an amazing network of people across the U.S. who refuse to let our kids face the injustice of poverty and despair. You get to: Be part of something big, real, and life-changing Learn about the problems of poverty in America Connect with what’s happening in communities around the U.S. Follow the stories of the kids being helped Get involved in volunteer opportunities

Seeing results Here’s how you’ll know you’re helping: You’ll get regular updates through our newsletter, Facebook page, and website You can follow the stories of kids who have benefited from your support for the program You’ll be able to share stories and experiences with other Child Champions You’ll be able to see results firsthand on volunteer trips, where available
