Wind Energy By: Montana Benninger Michael Gallo Taylor Latham Emily Pitman Chris Weldon

Advantages and Disadvantages  Wind is free and with technology, can be captured efficiently  Once wind turbines are built, there will be no cause greenhouse or other pollutants  Many people feel that the countryside should be left untouched  Wind turbines are noisy  When wind turbines are being manufactured, some pollution is produced.

Current research Today we have wind turbines and towers with the newest technology to make it one of the best forms of power. Today’s tech savvy turbines have the newest features that improve windplant power production, reduce windplant capital cost, improve reliability and lower O&M cost and eliminate barriers to large-scale deployment.

Current Research (Continued)  Humans use wind power to get water or pump it out of the ground, or use it for food such as grinding minerals and grains with windmills/wind turbines.  Wind turbines can produce electricity if they receive enough wind to power it. It is not harmful to the environment and it is safe to use.  1% of the US electricity is supplied by wind power.  Turbines can harm animals like bats and birds that come in contact with the machines. It is not a major issue due to the fact that majority of birds and bats deaths are not caused by windmills or wind turbines but more buildings.

Outside the United States Outside the United States wind power is generated from turbines and towers to power electricity for HOMES, BUISNESSES, and SCHOOLS. Wind power outside the United States is mainly used in South America.

Wind Turbines convert the kinetic energy in the wind into mechanical power. This mechanical power can be used for grinding grain or pumping water; or a generator can convert this mechanical power into electricity to power homes, businesses, and schools.

How the Source is Currently Used in the US  Used as an energy efficient source of electricity, not negative for the environment (Earth Friendly).  Wind farms sometimes used as a place to visit or an interesting location for tourists.  Supplies energy to places without any.

Wind energy effects on public land  Wind turbines cause inner ear damage for people and if placed in rural areas can be a waste of space and the noise is terrible.

Wind effects on the public land Birds get distracted and fly in to the turbines and die. Bats also have this problem.
