Most Native American tribes are located around a body of water because Native American people lived off of the land. Like it is today for everyone, water was a necessity to the AI people. Today we hold social gatherings called PowWows We perform traditional dances at the PowWows as drummers drum and chant songs Styles of dance include: men’s and women’s traditional, men’s and women’s fancy, jingle (women), and grass (men)

In NC the Cherokee people are referred to as the Eastern Band of Cherokee, in OK they are referred to as the Western Band of Cherokee Haliwa-Saponi means “The red earth people” Waccamaw Siouan means “The fallen star people” Ms. Jacobs is a member of the Coharie Tribe, but is also Waccamaw Siouan Ms. Jacobs met a guy once whose name name was Aaron, and he was from the Meherrin tribe…we call him Aaron the Meherrin
