Bringing homeless Labrador Retrievers to their forever families since 1999
MLRR is an all volunteer, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to finding loving, permanent homes for unwanted or abandoned Labrador Retrievers.
All rescued Labs are placed in foster homes. This allows our volunteers to authentically evaluate each dog or puppy for temperament and level of training prior to adoption. We have found that this proactive approach promotes a more effective “matchmaking” process; potential adopters are better informed and adopt dogs who become a permanent member of the family.
Our dogs are rescued from a variety of circumstances and situations. We have taken in the very young, the elderly, and even pregnant dogs and made sure that mama and babies all have good homes.
On average, MLRR rescues over 100 dogs per year. That means in any given month, MLRR saves in excess of eight (8) lives. Yay! I’m one of MLRR’s saved dogs!
According to the Humane Research Council, big black dogs are often subject to color based canine discrimination in American shelters. Many of MLRR’s adoptable dogs fall under the category of “big, black dog” and are spared the discrimination of a shelter environment because they are in a foster home. We let photos do the talking before a meet and greet with potential adopters.
Our primary expense is veterinary bills. All rescued Labs are spayed or neutered. The dogs receive vaccinations for DHLPP (distemper/lepto/parvo) and rabies. In addition, all dogs will undergo a heartworm test. Rescued Labs will receive treatment for other medical conditions that may exist at the time of their rescue at MLRR's expense. We take the health and welfare of our adoptees very seriously. Wiggly tail of a happy adoptable
Since Midwest Labrador Retriever Rescue is an all volunteer, non- profit organization, it relies on donations for funding.
Because MLRR has no paid employees, all donations go directly toward rescue efforts. Every dollar directly supports our rescue efforts; every penny helps us to save a dog's life.
Thank you for your interest in Midwest Labrador Retriever Rescue.
