 21 million children receiving free/reduced-price lunch through National School Lunch Program (NSLP) in the U.S.  In CA, 80% of the kids receiving free/rp lunch (2 million kids) not participating in a similar program in summer months  Worsens conditions of food insecurity, puts low-income kids at greater risk of obesity  The safety net of the school year is gone What happens in June?

 USDA Summer Food Service Program(SFSP)  Serve healthy, free meals to low-income kids  Connect kids with summer activities  Nutrition education (in a fun way!)  Meal reimbursement can help offset costs  Kids return to school in the Fall, healthy and ready to learn The Opportunity
