Presentation transcript:

It is not necessary to login to use the card catalog, but extra features are available when you are logged in. It is the same user name and password as logging into the computer.

Enter your search term in the “find” box and click keyword, title, author, subject, or series. You can also choose to limit your material to a type, such as e-books.

If you click resource lists on the left, you can access reading and research lists from your teachers. Click “view” to see the titles.

Click “Destiny Quest” on the left for a different view of the library!

Here you will see the books checked out most often, reading lists, and new books.

You can do a search, and drag and drop books into your list. If you login, you can save your list.

Search for the book Zamba by entering the search term and clicking title.

This screen gives you information on the book, including author and copyright date. Note that the library has one copy, but there are no copies available. That means our copy is checked out. If you click the title or “details” by the green arrow, you get still more information.

Here you see a summary of the book, and a button if you want to put it on hold. Under “Explore!,” if there is a “find it” at the end of a line, you can click it for more books on that subject.

If you log in, you will have a “My Info” tab showing what you have checked out and when it is due. The resource lists link on the left is for book lists you have created. You can also view your checkout history and fines and place holds for books you want.

Let’s do a subject search on “vampires” by typing “vampires” and clicking the subject button.

Be sure the results are sorted by call number to distinguish fiction from nonfiction. The titles tab shows all the books the library has on this subject. Click “show all” to have all results on one page.

After doing a search, click on the “One Search” tab to see Internet and database information. If the search lasts too long, click “get results” to see what has already been found.

You can see how many hits were found on each website. Click “show” to see the actual articles.

Here are the results from Britannica High School. Click on the blue title for the article.

Here is the actual article. Note the button to cite article.

Here is the information you need for your Works Cited page. You can even choose a different format instead of MLA if you need it.

Most of the databases will give you the citation information.

One Search also uses educational search engines instead of general search engines like Google. These articles will not have citation information, but they have been evaluated and are more reliable than those found by a Google or Yahoo search.

Finally, there is a way to do One Search and find books, websites, and database articles all at once!
