Role Of The Enlightenment In Latin America By: Ron, Francisca, Victor, and Franklin

Miguel Hidalgo The voice of the Mexican Revolution Inspired by the Enlightenment ideas was the priest father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla who was born in New Spain on May 8, 1753, He had pure spanish, making him a criollo. The criollo wanted Equality. September 16, 1810, he Reach out to the people from the pulpit in a form of a speech which has come to be known as the “Grito de Dolores” (the Cry of Dolores). Miguel Spoke his intention to declare independence from Spain and encouraged the people to join him in his holy crusade. His attempt to Get freedom for Spain was a fail. But, Even though the revolution it opened the peoples’ eyes to the possibility of freedom, and the priest’s martyrdom allowed others to pick up the fallen banner of independence. August 24, 1821, a treaty was signed granting Mexico independence from Spain.

- Enlightenment ideas inspired a successful slave revolt in Haiti led by Toussaint L’Ouverture -He was a self-educated slave with no military training that led his country to independence. - Toussaint proved to be a great leader by winning 7 battles in 7 days and as a result he became the governor of the colony. Toussaint Louverture and Hatti -A few months later, the French invited Toussaint to come to a negotiating meeting. When he arrived, It appeared to be a trap set by Napoleon - Napoleon ordered that Toussaint be placed in a prison dungeon in the mountains, and murdered by means of cold, starvation, and neglect. Toussaint died in prison, but others kept fighting for freedom

-Simon Bolivar was born in a wealthy family. As he grew up he looked up to Voltaire, Locke and a lot more because he understood the enlightenment ideas. He learned all of this from his tour Simon Rodriguez. In 1811, Valenzuela became the first Latin colony that declared their independence. -He was later called El Libertador because he freed a lot of people. He helped Salvador, Ecuador and a lot more including Valenzuela. - The enlightenment ideas were so important to the Latin american history because they changed how people were being treated. For instance, Valenzuela became a better place for everyone, because of Simon Bolivar. -Because of the enlightenment thinkers Latin America had leaders that spoke up to bad kings and they made their home an equal place for everyone. Simon Bolivar and Venezuela
