Filling in the white spaces… How do they get here?

1. Choose to see each other’s beauty Song of Solomon 6:4 “ 4 You are beautiful as Tirzah, my love, lovely as Jerusalem, awesome as an army with banners.”

How do they get here? 1. Choose to see each other’s beauty Song of Solomon 6:4 “ 4 You are beautiful as Tirzah, my love, lovely as Jerusalem, awesome as an army with banners.” Song of Solomon 5:16 “ 16 His mouth is most sweet, and he is altogether desirable. This is my beloved and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem.”

How do they get here? 2. Reflect on their wedding day Song of Solomon 6:5-7 “ 5 Turn away your eyes from me, for they overwhelm me— Your hair is like a flock of goats leaping down the slopes of Gilead. 6 Your teeth are like a flock of ewes that have come up from the washing; all of them bear twins; not one among them has lost its young. 7 Your cheeks are like halves of a pomegranate behind your veil. ”

Song of Solomon 4:1 “Behold, you are beautiful, my love, behold, you are beautiful! Your eyes are doves behind your veil.” Song of Solomon 4:9 “You have captivated my heart, my sister, my bride; you have captivated my heart with one glance of your eyes” Song of Solomon 6:5 “Turn away your eyes from me, for they overwhelm me”

How do they get here? 3. Celebrate their one-of-a-kind-ness Song of Solomon 6:8-10 “ 8 There are sixty queens and eighty concubines, and virgins without number. 9 My dove, my perfect one, is the only one, the only one of her mother, pure to her who bore her. The young women saw her and called her blessed; the queens and concubines also, and they praised her. 10 ‘Who is this who looks down like the dawn, beautiful as the moon, bright as the sun, awesome as an army with banners?’”

How do they get here? 4. Move towards each other selflessly Song of Solomon 6:11-13 “ 11 I went down to the nut orchard to look at the blossoms of the valley, to see whether the vines had budded, whether the pomegranates were in bloom. 12 Before I was aware, my desire set me among the chariots of my kinsman, a prince.”

How do they get here? 4. Move towards each other selflessly Song of Solomon 6:11-13 “ 13 Return, return, O Shulammite, return, return, that we may look upon you.” “Why should you look upon the Shulammite, as upon a dance before two armies?”

So how do we do this? How do we find reconciliation?

First, be reconciled to God 2 Corinthians 5: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Then be reconciled to each other

1. Choose to see each other’s beauty 2 Corinthians 3:18, 4: And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit… 5 For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.

Then be reconciled to each other 2. Reflect on our “wedding day” Revelation 21:1-4 1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

Then be reconciled to each other 3. Celebrate each other’s one-of-a-kind-ness 1 Corinthians 12: For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. 14 For the body does not consist of one member but of many. 15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body.

Then be reconciled to each other 3. Celebrate each other’s one-of-a-kind-ness 1 Corinthians 12: If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? 18 But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. 19 If all were a single member, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.

Then be reconciled to each other 4. Move towards each other in Christ Romans 5: For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.

Application: God has paved the way for true reconciliation… How will you respond?
