In work on shape children will learn to identify horizontal, vertical and curved lines, and to identify different angles. They will also learn to measure using millilitres and litres. Children will also be learning fractions of shapes and amounts, understanding data and reading time on analogue and digital clocks. This will include solving problems that involve time intervals. Websites you could visit to support your child: SCIENCE. This term’s science topic is light. Children will discuss where light comes from and carry out experiments to discover how shadows are formed and affected. They will learn key terms such as ‘transparent’, ‘translucent’ and ‘opaque’. They will also discuss how different materials reflect light, and how this can help children choose appropriate reflective clothing for travelling safely in the dark. Children can visit the bbc bitesize site to support learning. ENGLISH English this half term we are looking at the book Diary of a Killer Cat. Children will be encouraged to read the text to infer about characters and write a character description. They will also be retelling the story to familiarise themselves with text and then transferring this knowledge to write their own story following the structure of this one. Also we will be looking at play scripts recognising features and children will write this book using the features of a play script. Eventually they will act it our using the puppets they make in DT. Children will continue to work on their writing targets focusing on grammar; including punctuation and sentence construction.
