Algebra Quick Test June 2011

Put the numbers one to 12 down the page This is a speed test. We will then go through it together.

1. Simplify by collecting like terms a + a + 3a = 5a

2. Simplify by collecting like terms ab + ab+ 3ab = 5ab

3. Simplify by collecting like terms 4ab + 2a+ 3a = 4ab + 5a

4. Simplify by collecting like terms a 2 + a 2 + 3a 2 = 1a 2 + 1a 2 + 3a 2 = (1+1+3)a 2 = 5a 2

5. Solve 3x = 10 x = 10/3 x = 3 1/3 or x = or x = 3.3 recurring

6. Solve a 2 = 9 a.a = 9 a = 3 because 3x3=9

7. Solve 3x = 12 x = 12/3 x = 4

8. Solve 3x = 2x + 6 3x – 2x = 6 x = 6

9. Solve 3x – 6 = 2x + 6 3x – 2x = x = 12

10. Solve 3x + 3 = 2x + 6 3x – 2x = x = 3

11. Solve 3x = 4x – 6 3x – 4x = -6 -x = -6 x = 6

12. Solve 3x = 2x + 9 3x – 2x = 9 x = 9
