HEALTHY LIVING GROUP Debbie Clennel – Community Nurse, Learning Disabilities.

What is it ? The Healthy Living group is a 10 week course To educate people with a learning Disability and / or clients carers/ family. Session offer education on health eating, exercise and lifestyle choices. Session last approximately 90 minutes including a break for drink. Person needs to make there own way there.

Structure Week 1 Introductions Basic checks ; Weight, height, blood pressure and body mass index Ground rules Timetable

Footcare Presentation Good foot hygiene Whats’s normal Quiz on foot problems Charts and visual aids

Exercise Type of exercise What exercise is right for you Presentation from Physiotherapy assistant re simple exercises and practical example ie seated exercises.

Fats and Salts Types of fats god and bad Current government guidelines and recommendation What foods contain fat. Why we need fat in our diet Visual aids; fat tubes, food packaging
