Seven Days Battles

Goal: Union Army to attack and gain control of Richmond the Confederate Capital.

June 25 to July 2, 1862 The Confederates forced the Union Army to retreat when they got close to Richmond – Lee saved Richmond for the Confederacy Several battles were fought over the 7 day period including; – Oak Grove – Confederate victory – Beaver Dam Creek – Union victory – Gaines’ Mill – Confederate victory – Garnett’s and Golding’s Farm – Union victory – Savages Station – Confederate victory, Union leaves behind much needed supplies – Glendale – draw – Malvern Hill – Bloody mess, union retreated

Impact End the campaign for Richmond made by the Union since the start of the war. – Reorganization of the Union command Lee saved the Confederacy – Confirmed that the war would not end quickly
