Presentation transcript:

What are the similarities between Islam, Christianity, and Judaism? All 3 began in Southwest Asia Judaism with Abraham in the Ancient city of Ur about 2000 BC Christianity in Jerusalem with the ministry of Jesus about 30 AD Islam with Muhammad in Mecca (Saudi Arabia) about 610 AD Abraham and other prophets All 3 recognize Adam, Noah, Abraham, and many others as prophets of God. Both Christianity and Islam recognize Jesus as an important prophet… although Christianity also sees Jesus as the Son of God. Isaac and Ishmael Jews and Christians claim connection to Abraham through his son Isaac from his wife Sarah. Islam claims connection to Abraham through his son Ishmael from his servant Hagar. Jews and Christians believe that Abraham was called to sacrifice his son Isaac until an angel intervened. Muslims (and the Baha’i) believe that it was Ishmael, not Isaac, who was set to be sacrificed.

What are the similarities between Islam, Christianity, and Judaism? Common Holy Sites -The Dome of the Rock in Islamic belief is the spot where Muhammad ascended into Heaven (3rd Holiest site in Islam) -In Judaism it is the Holiest spot of Earth, the site of the Holy of Holies of the Temple. -All 3 religions believe that this is the spot of Mount Moriah, or the altar where Abraham was to sacrifice his son Isaac/Ishmael.
