What type of sugar dissolves better in water? Raw SugarRaw castor SugarBrown Sugar

What’s the difference between the sugars? Raw Castor sugar appears to be a very fine grain of sugar.

What’s the difference between the sugars? Raw Sugar appears to have larger grains of sugar than the Castor Sugar

What’s the difference between the sugars? Brown Sugar is a lot more dense than that of the other two sugars. It tends to “clump” together more and is not as grainy like the other sugars

QUESTION – What type of sugar dissolves better in water? What type of water? Cold Water Water from the Fridge Tap Water Water out of the tap Hot Water Boiling water from Jug

Let Predict what will happen? Cold water out of the fridge – No sugar will dissolve in this water Tap Water – The Raw Castor sugar may dissolve best in tap water Boiling water - All three sugars will dissolve in hot water

Cold Water Raw Sugar Raw Castor SugarBrown Sugar

As predicted no sugars dissolved in the cold water

Tap Water Raw Sugar Raw Castor SugarBrown Sugar

As you can see from the pictures the brown sugar dissolved the best out of the three different types of sugar in tap water

Boiling water Raw Sugar Raw Castor SugarBrown Sugar

Using the boiling water, the raw castor sugar and the brown sugar dissolved the best. Some of the raw sugar dissolved but not all of it.

WHY? Kevin C de Berg put it in a really simple way by explaining that the sugar particles are broken down by the water into smaller particles that you cannot see with the naked eye. (Kevin C de Berg)

So what does this mean? Because the Brown sugar dissolved in both the tap water and the Boiling water does this mean that it is the answer to our question? Does Brown Sugar dissolve the best in water? In order to complete fair testing we would need to repeat the procedure at least 3 different times changing at least one element of the test.

Before completing the fair testing we would need to ask more questions 1.As the Brown sugar was tested last in all three tests – did the temperature of the water change at all over this time? 2.Did the amount of sugar used, contribute to whether it dissolved 3.Did the amount of water used contribute to whether the sugar dissolved
