You will learn how to quickly edit a video using Window Movie Maker. This program is available on most computers in the TWU computer labs. The video files you want to edit should have a.wmv extension behind its name. If you have another video format that is not compatible, please make a reservation at the TRC with a STEP trainer to help you to convert your video.
STEP 1 : Import your video from your hard drive, CD, or flash drive.
STEP 2 : Once your video is imported it will show up in the collections pane. Drag your video to the storyboard. Notice how your video will show up in the viewer.
STEP 3 : Notice the buttons at the bottom of your video viewer. Along with the play, stop, fast forward and rewind buttons. There are buttons that can take you to the previous frame or next frame within :00.07 of a second. This will help you to split your video to the precise moment you want to show.
STEP 4 : Press play or fast forward approximately where you want to split the video and then use the previous frame or next frame buttons to split it exactly where you want it within a :00.07 of a second.
STEP 5 : Once you split the video you will see both videos on the storyboard. You may press the delete button to remove the clip you don’t want or add in a transitions or a photo in between the two videos.
STEP 6 : Edit your movie by using the tools under Edit Movie tab. For more helpful tips use Movie Making Tips.
STEP 7 : Once you are done editing your video, adding effects, transactions or credits you can now save your video to your hard drive. It is recommended that you save your video to your computer then burn your file to a CD or flash drive to avoid a long burn time.
