Today’s Lesson Good Morning Class, Today we will be covering the following topic(s): What are Alphabets and why are they important? Words that begin with the letters of the Alphabet ABC Song!!!

What are Alphabets? A set of letters or symbols in a fixed order, used to represent the basic sounds of a language; in particular, the set of letters from A to Z C B A

Why are they Important? Learning the alphabet is the first step for your child to learn how to read. Letter recognition and phonemic awareness are the two strongest predictors of reading ability. The alphabet provides the building blocks of written language while knowledge of phonemes provides the building blocks of oral language. When the grapheme (alphabet letter) and the phoneme (associated voiced unit) are combined, the child has the initial knowledge needed to become a successful reader.
