Hitler Comes To Power “Hitler comes to power” relates to the book because Anna’s Family is Jewish. Anna’s family moves to Switzerland before Hitler comes to power. Anna’s family becomes separated because Anna’s Father has to leave first. Her Father was a very important Jewish man. Hitler wanted to gather all the Jews, especially the Jews with political power or that are important and speck out against Hitler. Home Courtesy of American Chains.com A picture of Adolph Hitler

This relates to the book because, while Anna’s family was staying at the motel, a German family came over the summer. The kids were playing with Anna and Max, then their Mother came out. She said that her children were forbidden to play with Anna and Max just because they were Jewish. The German family was also a big supporter of Hitler and the Nazis. School / Education School / education relates to my book because, Anna and Max were allowed to go to school during World War II. This was interesting because Jewish kids weren’t allowed to go to school during the war. Home Courtesy of ushmm.org A picture of a Jewish classroom in Cologne, Germany

Family Death Death of a family member relates to this book because Anna’s Onkle Julius committed suicide because he was Jewish. So he could not go to the zoo any more. Onkel Julius was an environmentalist and loved to go to the zoo. Since he was forbidden to go to the zoo, he took his own life. Home Courtesy of Salon.com A tombstone of a Jewish person in Germany

Star Of David This relates to my book because the Jewish people had to wear it when Hitler was in power. But, luckily Anna and her family was smart and fast enough they could escape before anything serious happened. Home Courtesy of Atlas shrug.com d/holocaust/a/yellowstar.htm

Anti - Semitism Anti- Semitism relates to the book by in the book Anna and Max weren’t able to play with the German children, and whenever they got close to German children the parents of the German kids would come and get them. The Swastika The swastika relates to the book by in the book Anna and Max saw men wearing a badge that had it on it. So they tried to stay away from those men. Home Courtesy of Adolph Hitler Fans.com a/swastikahistory.htm The swastika and Hitler
