Final LEED Credit Matrix Site Site selection, density and redevelopment Alternative transportation Storm water design Heat Island effect Water Efficiency Water efficient landscaping Water Use reduction Energy and Atmosphere Enhanced commissioning Optimize Energy Performance With exception of 4 credits including using a white roof to mitigate the heat island effect ,some water reduction strategies relative to plumbing, and HVAC energy optimization, these first 3 sections of possible LEED credits had nothing to do with the building itself. 10 out of 14 of the credits in the first 3 categories of LEED are non- building related…and were in large part pre-mandated criteria from the Massport Design Guidelines Items in this category included: Water saving flow devices Moisture control measures to prevent microbal contamination Use advanced energy management systems Use HVAC economizers Use energy saving light fixtures 400 Hz power at all gates
Final LEED Credit Matrix Materials and Resources Recycled content Local/ regional materials Indoor Environmental Quality Construction management plan Low-emitting materials Indoor chemical & Pollutant source control Thermal Comfort Innovation and Design Process Exemplary Performance in Recycled Content and Local materials Locally produced building materials to minimize transportation Use low volatile organic compound (VOC) containing materials Minimize use of PVC materials Provide public art to enhance visual experience -Super-insulated walls & ceilings to enhance thermal efficiency
Logan Sustainable Design: Keys to Success Federal and State pressure for sustainable design Pre-Established Airport Design Guidelines and the incorporation of mitigation measures during the EIS process that include sustainable/ green buildings Proactive Airport : Established business agreement between airport and tenant included LEED Certification requirement. Other policies that other Airports are instituting: Evaluating green purchasing guidelines developed by the City of Seattle Electrical energy conservation investments and training Recycling programs Tenant monitoring and training programs Hazardous materials substitutions Productivity measurement and training Negotiated “emissions credits” with local clean air agency
