Tenzin Gyatso The fourteenth Dalai Lama

Biography The Dalai Lama was born in a village north east Tibet. He was born on July 6, 1935 in the small village of Taktser. When he was four years old he became abuddist monk and the fourteenth dalai lama. In 1954, he travelled to Beijing for peace talks with Mao, and in 1956 he went to India, where he could meet the Prime Minister Nehru, who requested support. But the crisis continued and this led to the first rebellion in two provinces bordering China. On March 10, 1959 Lhasa revolted again to assert its independence. The demonstrations were brutally suppressed until the total occupation of the country. Tens of thousands of Tibetans died in the bombing or were imprisoned.

Government After the victory of the Communists, on November 17, 1959 he was declared head of government in exile. Considering that the only way to liberate their country from oppression was that his word and activity were not silenced, His Holiness the Dalai Lama crossed the Himalayas on foot, on a perilous journey that took him into exile in India. Some 80,000 Tibetans joined him, while Mao Tse Tung put in the government of Tibet the Panchen Lama, however, he failed and was imprisoned in In 1963, Dalai Lama promulgated a democratic constitution based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In March 2011 the Dalai Lama announced that he would relinquish all political office in the Tibetan government in exile, to be just a spiritual and religious leader.

Nobel Price On December 10, 1989 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his steadfast resistance to the use of violence in the struggle of his people to recover their freedom, publicizing their views regarding the conflict in Tibet and the situation in his country. He’s a member of the Honorary Committee of the International Coalition for the Decade of non violence and peace.
